Missouri legislature passes education savings account bill

The American Federation for Children applauds the Missouri Senate for passing Senate Bill 313 this morning to create an education savings account program, an innovative form of school choice, with a bipartisan 20-12 vote.

“AFC would like to thank Sen. Andrew Koenig and Sen. Ed Emery for crafting this innovative legislation and Gov. Eric Greitens for actively championing education savings accounts in Missouri,” said Tommy Schultz, communications director for the American Federation for Children. “Missouri is just one of many states that are embracing school choice and providing educational options and opportunity to all students. Customization is the future of education, and with this ESA program, Missouri is innovating its education system.”

SB 313 creates a unique, $25 million tax credit funded education savings account program serving special needs students, foster children and children from active duty military families. The bill now moves on to the State House for consideration.
