AFC Statement on Charlottesville

“There is simply no place in the United States of America for racism, bigotry, or supremacy of one group over another. Nor is there any place in America for violence in the expression of one’s views, and our hearts and prayers go out to the victims of the horrific events in Charlottesville, Va. this past weekend. Let’s be clear: only one side showed up on Saturday in Charlottesville with an agenda advocating genocide and then committing murder, and this must be unequivocally condemned for what it truly is: fundamentally evil and anathema to everything America stands for. As Americans we have a duty to reject and denounce the poison of racism, neo-Nazism, and violence at all times and in clear, unmistakable terms.

“Every day the American Federation for Children and our allies are fighting to give every child, regardless of race, family income or circumstance, access to a great education. Educational choice brings people together and creates equal educational opportunity for children. At a time when the nation is divided over so many things, we remain determined to build coalitions of Republicans, Democrats, Independents, faith-based organizations, businesses, communities, and school leaders to ensure that every child receives equal access to a high-quality education.”
