Megan and Brandon Stewart
Louisiana Scholarship Program | Lutheran High School
Before receiving scholarships to attend Lutheran High School, my brother Brandon and I attended Jefferson Parish (Louisiana) public schools. Looking back, I don’t think we would be where we are today if we would have continued attending public schools.
In the eighth grade I was attending a failing public school. That’s when my mother told me about an opportunity to go to a private school with a scholarship from the Louisiana Scholarship Program. At the time I wasn’t excited about leaving my friends and going to a private school that I knew nothing about.
I wanted to stay with my friends and attend a very large underperforming public high school. Thankfully, mother knew best.
My high school journey culminated with me becoming salutatorian of Lutheran’s class of 2017.”
The Lutheran experience has been wonderful for both me and my brother. Attending a small private school like Lutheran has allowed us to be comfortable with meeting new people, and explore and branch out into the world, while allowing us to nurture our relationship with God. I’m very humbled by being able to receive this type of love and learn in a place that I knew I needed to be all along.
When I graduated from Lutheran High School, I told my mom this was the best decision she could have made for us. I look back now and realize the magnitude of this blessing. Her decision to apply to the Louisiana Scholarship Program has been a life changer for me and for Brandon.
My high school journey culminated with me becoming salutatorian of Lutheran’s class of 2017. Today, I am a junior attending Louisiana State University majoring in kinesiology. Brandon graduated in 2019 and is weighing his college options.
The Louisiana Scholarship Program gave me, and so many of my classmates, a great opportunity. We are all so very thankful.
