Shermekia Bonnee Always Knew there was a Better School for Her Child

Shermekia Bonnee always knew there was a better school for her daughter Kenya and son Kendrick. She was not happy with the New Orleans public school they attended. “My children just weren’t learning,” she said.

There was a private school on her street that she could see from her front porch.

“I would see the principal outside every single morning, whether it was raining or freezing cold. She would escort each child into the school. I knew I wouldn’t be able to afford for my children to attend that school.

After hearing a radio commercial about the Louisiana Scholarship Program, Shermekia applied and was accepted at St. Benedict the Moor School.

“I was extremely excited and overwhelmed that they are able to go to St. Benedict the Moor. Every parent should be able to choose the best school for their children.”
