Statement on the Anniversary of Brown v. Board of Education

In recognition of the 64th anniversary of the Supreme Court decision in Brown v. Board of Education, the American Federation for Children, the nation’s voice for educational choice, released the following statement:

Statement from Ann Duplessis, Board Member of the American Federation for Children:

“While we celebrate what this decision meant for our country and our communities, we must also acknowledge the limits of the Supreme Court in transforming a system that, to this day, routinely delivers a lower quality of education to children of color.

“In the 64 years since the Brown v. Board decision, yet another generation of children is being shortchanged by the system. The change millions of children so urgently need will require that the ultimate power to choose an educational option be placed in the hands of parents, unobstructed by the circumstance of their child’s birth, whether wealthy or poor, black or white.”
